Samson On A Roadshow In Schools

Enthusiasm, smiles and great expectations. Samson visited elementary and secondary schools in the Moravian-Silesian Region, that have participated in the Paralympic School Days project (PSD). “We are very pleased with the way the children were enjoying the Paralympic school days. Right now they are in their classrooms with teachers trying to think of, for example, tools for cheering or even different adaptations of our mascot, ” said Eva Dawson, head of Paralympic School Days. The PSD are not just a one-time visit to elementary or high schools, during which children are able to try basketball in a wheelchairs. The aim has a mainly long-term educational character. “We try to focus on strengthening human solidarity, tolerance, and mutual respect. We also want to show children and young adults that they can achieve their goals, even if it seems very difficult. Sport is an ideal educational tool in this respect, ”said Jiří Šindler, chairman of the organizing team of the Ostrava 2019 World Para Ice Hockey Championships.

During the Roadshow, the PSD project leaders have gone on with the official mascot of the Ostrava 2019 World Para Hockey Championships – Samson the Penguin. The children received a free entry ticket to the tournament for themselves and their parents. At the same time, WCH organizers wanted to see how the participating schools are preparing for the championships. Each of the schools has already selected a team that they will support during the WCH. This led to children learning about each country in

geography and history lessons, or they made cheering tools, flags and even various forms of the popular penguin Samson in art classes.

The organizing team of the Ostrava 2019 World Para Hockey Championships is preparing some great prizes for the kids and schools with the best fan program! One of the prizes will be a discussion with the WCH ambassador – Dominik Hašek and Silly Toons Youtubers!!!

Twenty elementary and secondary schools from all over the Moravian-Silesian Region were involved in the Paralympic School Days project, which is part of the Ostrava 2019 World Para Hockey Championships.
