The OSTRAVA 2009 World Championship, at that time sledge hockey championship , was the first historic moment when the best teams of world hockey teams of athletes with physical disabilities were presented in the Czech Republic. In May 2009, the USA, Canada, Norway, Italy, Germany, Korea, Japan, and, of course, the Czech Republic were represented at the SAREZ winter stadium. The national team, under the guidance of coach Tomáš Zelenka, qualified for the Paralympic games for the first time in history. This emotional moment was accompanied by an almost sold out arena and a great atmosphere.

Ostrava has held precedence in world championships attendance in para hockey for the past ten years. The unforgettable atmosphere of OSTRAVA 2009 WCH, Ostrava audience and background, allowed to bring the world para hockey back to Ostrava after ten years.

OSTRAVA 2019 WCH will once again be a celebration of this popular and dynamically developing Paralympic sport, a great opportunity to see the “ice hockey champs” who have found their way in their handicaps and proudly represent their nation today.
